How the assessment works

Here is a video demo of the product.

  1. Register: The participant will start by registering with their name, email address, and a password.

  2. Screeners:  answer 2 to 4 questions about food group intake (e.g. do you eat red meat).

  3. Image Selection (how you currently eat):  choose from a series of side by side images of food - which image looks MORE like how they typically eat. Don’t worry about exact match. You’ll choose ~6-8 times before the system is complete.

  4. Dietary restrictions: identify any restrictions or preferences.

  5. Personal information: enter current age, height, weight, gender, activity level to get a personalized report.

  6. ID Assessment results: a comprehensive analysis of intake. The score scale is from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest. Quality scores are determined by the Healthy Eating Index 2015. More about HEI scoring.

  7. Goal setting: Choose health goals to help identify the best diet

  8. Ideal diet image selection: Choose the image that looks most like how you WANT to eat

  9. Ideal diet profile: This is a detailed analysis of your goal diet.

  10. Comparison ID vs. Ideal: This is a comparison of your current and goal diet and can be used as a blueprint of changes the person should make.

  11. Save Report: After the assessment is complete, you can get a link to the final report - copy and paste it into the patient chart, email it, or save it as a PDF and attach it. You will also have access to the data via your Admin Dashboard.

WHAT DOES EACH PERSON’S DIET ID ACTUALLY MEAN?

Based on the user’s best match diet pattern image and personal information, Diet ID determines diet quality using a robustly validated scale called the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) 2015. This metric scores the diet pattern on a scale of 1 to 100. It takes into account food groups and nutrients that correlate with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and scientifically established dietary health risks. Once the users select the diet that is closest to how they eat, they have a really good idea of their diet quality and what that means for their overall health.

HOW IS DIET ID DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER DIET APPS?

Traditionally, we measure and assess diet by recording food intake, then analyzing the results. While straightforward, such methods (questionnaires, food photo journals, calorie counting, dietitian interviews), are tedious, time-consuming, and inaccurate. Diet ID is a whole new way to assess diet. Rather than track every item eaten, Diet ID prompts the user to view a series of food images, each representing unique diet patterns. After choosing the best match, users then indicate diet preferences and enter biometric data. Within a minute, your population will receive their own Diet ID -- a unique diet “fingerprint,” indicating type and quality level. That information tells us a lot about nutrition -- not just calories and macro and micronutrients, but where we are with diet quality and disease risk, and where we need to go to optimize health.

WHERE DO THE DIET PATTERNS AND IMAGES COME FROM?

Using scientific research literature, our team of registered dietitians engineer an ever-expanding map of diets that capture the eating patterns of over 90% of Americans (with plans to incorporate international diets). Each and every diet is analyzed for over 150 nutrients and scored for quality using the Healthy Eating Index 2015, the most widely used and scientifically validated diet scoring system available. Once the diet patterns are verified and scored, our culinary cartography team creates stunning visuals of the foods that represent each pattern.
